Native American zodiac signs are based on a lunar calendar

The ancient Indian zodiac signs are based on a lunar calendar, just like our ancestors, the Celts.

In the Indian zodiac signs, the year is imagined as a circle that is divided into 12 moons. The birthday is the entry into the circle or into the specific moon. Additional elements from nature are assigned to this: animal, plant, mineral, color. However, the assignment of animals is the most important.

In contrast to other signs of the zodiac, however, the Indians are less likely to believe that fate is predetermined by birth. They believe that everything is constantly changing and perfecting itself. This is reflected in the idea that humans are constantly moving through the circle of the twelve moons and are thus exposed to constantly changing influences.

Native American astrological zodiacs are also called earth or medicine wheels, where medicine does not just mean medicine, but everything that heals and perfects people, objects but also ideas, visions, dreams and actions. Each animal totem (totem means sign) symbolizes a certain stage of development in the cycle of nature. Four visible basic substances or elements from which life is created, such as fire, air, earth and water, create the first and overarching meaning of the zodiac sign; these are referred to as the gross driving forces.
